INCOMING BOOKS: (Titles/Covers Linked to Amazon)

I received three review books in the mailbox!  Two from Vine and one from an author.  I downloaded two books.

After Birth, by Elisa Albert (Vine)

51TKfRc-CZL

A year has passed since Ari gave birth to Walker, though it went so badly awry she has trouble calling it “birth” and still she can’t locate herself in her altered universe. Amid the strange, disjointed rhythms of her days and nights and another impending winter in upstate New York, Ari is a tree without roots, struggling to keep her branches aloft.

When Mina, a one-time cult musician — older, self-contained, alone, and nine-months pregnant —moves to town, Ari sees the possibility of a new friend, despite her unfortunate habit of generally mistrusting women. Soon they become comrades-in-arms, and the previously hostile terrain seems almost navigable.

All Day and a Night, by Alafair Burke (Vine)

18635057

When psychotherapist Helen Brunswick is murdered in her Park Slope office, the entire city suspects her estranged husband—until the District Attorney’s office receives an anonymous letter. The letter’s author knows a chilling detail that police have kept secret: the victim’s bones were broken after she was killed. Her injuries were eerily similar to the signature used twenty years earlier by Anthony Amaro, a serial killer serving a life sentence for his crimes. Now, Amaro is asking to be released from prison, arguing that he was wrongly convicted, and that the true killer is still on the loose.

NYPD Detectives Ellie Hatcher and JJ Rogan are tapped as the “fresh look” team to reassess the original investigation that led to Amaro’s conviction. The case pits them against both their fellow officers and a hard-charging celebrity defense lawyer with a young associate named Carrie Blank, whose older sister was one of Amaro’s victims.

As the NYPD and Amaro’s lawyers search for certainty among conflicting evidence, their investigations take them back to Carrie’s hometown, where secrets buried long ago lead to a brutal attack—one that makes it terrifyingly clear that someone has gotten too close to the truth.

In this latest Mac Faraday Mystery from best-selling mystery author Lauren Carr, readers will embark on a rollercoaster adventure with old friends (including the Lovers in Crime team of Prosecutor Joshua Thornton and Homicide Detective Cameron Gates), but also meet new ones as Mac Faraday’s daughter Jessica Faraday and Joshua Thornton’s son Murphy Thornton join the team in the race to get the love birds to the altar!

With three days left to the year, Deep Creek Lake is hopping with holiday vacationers and wedding guests pouring into the Spencer Inn for Mac Faraday and Archie Monday’s huge wedding ceremony which is being touted as the social event of the year.

But droopy flowers and guests who failed to RSVP are the least of Mac’s and Archie’s problems when a professional hit squad hits Spencer Manor to send the groom, Joshua Thornton, Archie’s mother, and Gnarly running for their lives.

With time running out to the big day, Mac Faraday and Spencer’s small police force have to sort through the clues to figure out not only who has been targeted for assassination, but also who is determined to stop everything … FOREVER!

It’s no coincidence when Grace Elland finds a vodka bottle next to the lifeless body of her boss, motivational speaker Sprague Witherspoon. The bottle is a terrifying—and deliberate—reminder of the horrors of her past.

Grace retreats to her hometown to regroup and tries to put everything she’s learned about positive thinking into practice—a process that is seriously challenged on the world’s worst blind date.

Awkward doesn’t begin to describe her evening with venture-capitalist Julius Arkwright. She has nothing in common with a man who lives to make money, but the intense former Marine does have some skills that Grace can use—and he’s the perfect man to help her when it becomes clear she is being stalked.

As Witherspoon’s financial empire continues to crumble around them, taking a deadly toll, Julius will help Grace step into her past to uncover a devious plan to destroy not only Grace, but everyone around her…

Liar, liar, pants on fire . . . College senior Lana Granger has told so many lies about her past that the truth seems like a distant, cloudy nightmare.  But she meets her match when she begins babysitting for a volatile, manipulative eleven-year-old boy.  Soon after Lana takes the job, her close friend Beck mysteriously disappears.  Lana instantly begins fabricating stories – to friends, to police, to herself.  Why doesn’t her account jibe with those of eye-witnesses?  Lana will do anything to bury the truth about that night … and about her life.  But someone else knows her secrets.  And he’s dying to tell.

    • Thanks, Katherine, and I haven’t even used my phone for “calling” yet! Just texting and social networking. I am slowly learning the ins and outs of it. Look of Love is one I’m really enjoying so far, and I’m looking forward to the others.

  1. I hope you enjoy the new phone. I’m a late adopter of technology too, not sure when that happened but ir did! It took me a long time to get a smartphone, and I’m still not entirely sure how the thing works. 🙂

Have a great weekend, hope it’s relaxing.

    • Thanks, Greg. My granddaughter is my “go to” person for answers, but she is very hard to reach…she’s probably on her phone! LOL

Enjoy your weekend, too; I will do more binge watching on Netflix.

    • Thanks, Kate, and I have had Call Me Zelda for a while, too! I’ve taken a little break from adding so many Vine reviews…I only have the two right now. That allows me to read from my stacks and from Sparky.

      Enjoy your week!

  6. It looks like you’ve had a busy blogging week and great new line-ups. I have The Look of Love, but haven’t started it yet. I will look forward to your thoughts. I think we’ve had four rainy Mondays in the last five weeks here!

    • I loved this one, Teddyree….and Unger’s books, too. I think we don’t get around to our favorite authors as often, as there are so many more books to choose from since we’ve been blogging…at least that’s my take on it.

  8. In the Blood and You were both favorites of mine.

I should probably do a little ‘housekeeping’ during Mini-Bloggiesta, but it’s supposed to warm up Saturday and I doubt I’ll be able to resist a day outdoors. Warm for us in the 40s, but after below zero, I’ll take it!

    • Oh, sounds like a tough choice for you, Leslie….I hope you enjoy whatever you decide to do. I am looking forward to In the Blood…and I started You, but it wasn’t the right time for me to read that one. I will enjoy it more when I am in a better frame of mind! Thanks for stopping by.
