Welcome to another Waiting on Wednesday, our special day for sharing upcoming book releases. Hop on over to Breaking the Spine to find out what everyone else is excited about.
I am so excited about the upcoming release of Sue Grafton’s new book in the Alphabet Series, and nearing the end of the alphabet, there is more anticipatory glee for us fans. Guess what the next book will be? X (Kinsey Millhone Mystery). Coming on August 25, 2015.
Of #1 New York Times–bestselling author Sue Grafton, NPR’s Maureen Corrigan said, “Makes me wish there were more than 26 letters.” With only two letters left, Grafton’s many devoted readers will share that sentiment.
X: The number ten. An unknown quantity. A mistake. A cross. A kiss.
X: The shortest entry in Webster’s Unabridged. Derived from Greek and Latin and commonly found in science, medicine, and religion. The most graphically dramatic letter. Notoriously tricky to pronounce: think xylophone.
X: The twenty-fourth letter in the English alphabet.Sue Grafton’s X: Perhaps her darkest and most chilling novel, it features a remorseless serial killer who leaves no trace of his crimes. Once again breaking the rules and establishing new paths, Grafton wastes little time identifying this sociopath. The test is whether Kinsey can prove her case against him before she becomes his next victim.

Thanks, Patty, and I’m sure I will…I love the characters and how the author brings the reader right into their lives. The mystery is not the most important thing for me.

I’ve never read Sue Grafton. In fact, the only way I’ve ever heard of her was when Phyllis tried to meet her in one episode of The Office!

The good thing, Jason, is that one doesn’t have to read them from the beginning…or in order. Thanks for stopping by.

You know, I’ve never been a big Kinsey reader. I did read maybe A, B, C and I think J or something. However, it just never quite clicked with me like it has done with so many. Just goes to prove that not every book is for every reader. And also, every book will have a read who enjoys it, hopefully. 🙂

Her books are like “comfort foods” in the mystery genre….I love Kinsey and enjoy seeing her go through her daily routines as she solves cases. Thanks for stopping by, Verushka.

I never read any of the books in this series and I want to so much! There are so many for me to catch up on though. They sound so good.

I think they work pretty well as stand-alones…each has a new mystery, and you can catch up on Kinsey’s backstory by what the author reveals in each book. Thanks for stopping by, Yvonne.

I of course have heard of this author and series, but I haven’t started it and wow, I would have the whole alphabet to catch up on!! Do you think someone could read the first book to find out her backstory and then jump ahead to the middle of the alphabet? Could they be read out of order or skipping some books is what I’m trying to ask 🙂
If not, then I’m not sure I have the money/effort to track down all those A, B, C’s 🙂 Thanks for reminding me, but it’s like JD Robb, so many to read, I don’t know…

Rita, I do think that would work. I know that I haven’t read all of the books in the beginning. In fact, in each book, I think she gives just enough backstory that one can catch up. Thanks for stopping by. And yes, each book has its own mystery, so reading out of order can work nicely, IMO.

I’m eagerly awaiting this one, and I think people can definitely read them out of order, although Kinsey has evolved in her family relationships over the 20+ years of the books, in the actually stories it’s only been about 5 years, so there’s not a lot of back story.

I love that about Kinsey…how she is pretty much the same, still rooted in the 80s…and it’s fun to see how she solves mysteries without the technology we now have. Thanks for stopping by, Elizabeth.
