Welcome to another Bookish Friday, in which I enjoy sharing excerpts from books…and connecting with other bloggers, who do the same.
Let’s begin the celebration by sharing Book Beginnings, hosted by Rose City Reader; and let’s showcase The Friday 56 with Freda’s Voice.
To join in, just grab a book and share the opening lines…along with any thoughts you wish to give us; then turn to page 56 and excerpt anything on the page.
Then give us the title of the book, so others can add it to their lists!
What better way to spend a Friday!
I have been fairly absent from the blogs all week…the Berliners are here! Yes, finally, and we’ve been hanging out, seeing the sights, eating, drinking, etc.
But today I am up earlier than usual, so let’s give this event a whirl. The Perfect Son, by Barbara Claypole White, is a new book to me…and a new author.
Beginning: Passengers in the row behind muttered the Lord’s Prayer. Ella, however, had no plans to make her final peace with God or die in the clouds. She had a battle to conduct on the ground, after she’d cleared baggage claim at the Raleigh-Durham International Airport.
***
56: Ella grappled for her cell phone, and it clattered to the floor.
Katherine dove down to retrieve it. She placed the phone out of reach on the chair. “Harry’s fine. He’s in school with Velcro max, and you, missy, need to rest and get your strength back….”
***
Blurb: From a distance, Felix Fitzwilliam, the son of an old English family, is a good husband and father. But, obsessed with order and routine, he’s a prisoner to perfection. Disengaged from the emotional life of his North Carolina family, Felix has let his wife, Ella, deal with their special-needs son by herself.
A talented jewelry designer turned full-time mother, Ella is the family rock…until her heart attack shatters their carefully structured existence. Now Harry, a gifted teen grappling with the chaos of Tourette’s, confronts a world outside his parents’ control, one that tests his desire for independence.
As Harry searches for his future, and Ella adapts to the limits of her failing health, Felix struggles with his past and present roles. To prevent the family from being ripped apart, they must each bend with the inevitability of change and reinforce the ties that bind.

So…what do you think? I have been seeing this book everywhere, so I am eager to read it.
