WEEKLY UPDATES: CHANGING THINGS UP….

Good morning! Today’s post will link up to The Sunday Salon, The Sunday Post and Stacking the Shelves, for weekly updates.

**Mailbox Monday is hosted at the home site: Mailbox Monday.

And let’s join Sheila in It’s Monday! What Are You Reading?, at Book Journey.

It is beautiful outside, with cooler temperatures promising that soon it will feel exactly like autumn.  But meanwhile, I’ve been enjoying my reading…and on Thursday, my beautiful granddaughter Fiona helped me totally rearrange my office.  The sofa bed went on the wall next to the door, so the length of the room stretches out just right for when it becomes a guest room.  My bigger bookshelf went on the wall with my Nook…which is now my work station!

It was exhausting, but such a productive afternoon…and Fiona is awesome!

This past week, I read some great books…and I veered off course a little from what I had on last week’s list…isn’t that what impulses are all about?

Bennie Rosato the founder of the Rosato & DiNunzio law firm hides her big heart beneath her tough-as-nails exterior and she doesn’t like to fail. Now, a case from her past shows her how differently things might have turned out. Thirteen years ago, Bennie Rosato took on Jason Leftavick, a twelve-year-old boy who was sent to a juvenile detention center after fighting a class bully. Bennie couldn’t free Jason, and to this day it’s the case that haunts her. Jason has grown up in and out of juvenile prison, and his adulthood hasn’t been any easier. Bennie no longer represents those accused of murder, but when Jason is indicted for killing the same bully he fought with as a kid, she sees no choice but to represent him…

Fiona is beautiful – those eyes ! And that breakfast is mouthwatering… Several years ago, I read the Forgotten garden by Kate Morton and loved it then, so I’m curious about her other book. Have a great week-end 😉

  3. I like Lisa Scottoline and didn’t know she had a new book out. I must try to find it. I’m actually reading The Lake House at the moment and enjoying it – but I enjoy all of Morton’s books!

    1. I am excited about Corrupted, and luckily found it on NetGalley. I am a big fan of Scottoline’s. And I suspect I will be a fan of Morton’s, too, as I am loving The Lake House. Thanks for visiting, Deborah.

  4. That coffee cake looks great! I’ve never eaten at Marie Callender’s… I wonder if we have one around here. I like your new look- you had a productive week moving things around. And yay for cooler temps- we’ve really cooled off too, I like it but at the same time it’s been a little TOO cool at night. 🙂 Oh well can’t have it all, I guess…

I’ll bet the library is loving it when you show up… 🙂

    1. It’s around the corner from where I live, so I end up there a lot, mostly at lunch; but after the flu shot, I needed comfort food…LOL. Thanks for stopping by, Greg, and I love the reception I get at the library.

  5. Yummy to that cake and coffee. Wonderful to have a grand daughter like Fiona, and great work with the rearranging. I agree, we can set a plan for our reading but change it out as the whim goes. If we can’t go by whim at our age well then its a crying shame! Hope you enjoy your reads this week.

    1. Ha-ha…Yay to going with our whims! I hesitated for a bit, and then said “why not?” I just added a book not on the list because I was in the mood for it (The Nesting Place), and didn’t get to one of the others (Catching Air). All in due time. Thanks for stopping by, and Fiona is a treasure.

    1. She is! I am so glad that she came back here…she was gone for a while. Of course, at that age, they can decide to go all kinds of places…she is thinking of the coast right now.

Thanks for stopping by, Pat, and enjoy your weekend and new week.

  6. Kate Morton tends to write her books Long but they are very readable. Always about Secrets! I’ll be interested to hear if it’s any good, as well as the Cold War novel A Place We Knew Well. I’m wondering if that’s worth reading. Meanwhile I’ve been visiting SoCal this week and it’s been very hot! 105 is a bit hot for October, wouldn’t you say? Ouch.

    1. I am enjoying The Lake House so far…I don’t like LONG books as much as I once did, but so far, I am going with the flow. I hope the Cold War novel is good…it reminds me of my college years, when that was all happening. Thanks for stopping by, Susan.

I had no idea Marie Callenders was a restaurant — I thought it was just frozen food. Your alcove with the curtain is cool.

    Like

    1. Oh, yes, the restaurants came first, then the frozen food…LOL. Probably not in all states…just like Cracker Barrel restaurants are in the Southwest, but not here in California. (I thought they were just cheese!).

Thanks for visiting, Steph, and I’m loving the alcove. It was used for a bookshelf and filing cabinet before…I like the work station here better.

    1. Thanks, Katherine, it was yummy! As for the guest room, when I had the sofa bed on the horizontal wall (I don’t know why I put it there!), there wasn’t any room to walk around the bed when it was open. Now, the new lengthy way will be better….great that I did this, now that my guests are gone! LOL.

But they will be back…hopefully, and other guests, too. I am enjoying The Lake House…I think I will be enjoying it for a couple of days, as it has over 500 pages.

Thanks for stopping by, and have a wonderful week.

  8. Your office/guest bedroom looks fabulous and cozy. I love it! That was so great of Fiona to help!!! And I’m jealous you have Marie Callender’s where you live! I miss them from when I lived in Cali 🙂

    Have a great week!!

    1. Thanks, Kristin, I am quite pleased with how it turned out. And I guess I take Marie Callender’s for granted.

When I was traveling in the Southwest, I encountered a chain we don’t have here: Cracker Barrel. I would love to see it here.

Enjoy your week, and thanks for visiting.

      1. We have Marie Callender’s in town now that I live in your state, and we had Cracker Barrel everywhere in FL– my Mom loved to browse their gift shop while waiting for a table when she visited us. And… we are getting something kind of near to us soon, that we miss from our Northeast days… a Dunkin Donuts, yay! I love their coffee 🙂

    1. Thanks, Trish, I love that Fiona was around and available…teenagers often aren’t…LOL.

She’s coming over tonight to spend the night and then I take her to the train in the morning…she’s off to visit friends at the coast.

    1. Thanks, Tracy, I am so loving the work station and room arrangement and wondering why it took me so long to change things up…LOL. Whenever I get stuck in one way of having things, I am invariably shocked and amazed to discover that there are more options.

I am loving The Lake House. Enjoy your week!

  9. Mmm, that food looks delicious, and yay for getting your flu shot. I’m a big believer in getting those. 🙂

The Scottoline book looks good and so does the Morton book. Your office nook looks awesome but I don’t think I’ve ever met someone who rearranges as much as you do. 😀 I need you to come to my condo and help me rearrange. 🙂

    Have a great week!

    1. Me, too, Bea (about the flu shot); I have been getting one every year for a few years…but I almost let it slip by this year, with all the excitement of guests, etc.

I love Scottoline and I’m enjoying the Morton book. And yes, I do rearrange my stuff a lot. I get bored and want a “new” look, and sometimes the new arrangement is just what the room needs.

I knew one person who rearranged more than I do…and maybe that’s where I first got the habit. My ex-husband would rearrange while I was at work!

      Enjoy your week….

Granddaughters are pretty awesome aren’t they, Fiona is beautiful and her eyes are stunning! What a cool little nook for your work station, I love it. Glad you’re enjoying The Lake House, I love Kate Morton’s writing. And I’m curious about Sarah Pekkanen’s new one, I’ve only read one of hers, The Best of Us, it was ok.
Have a great week and happy reading 🙂

    1. Thanks, Teddyree, and I am loving the work station and so grateful for my awesome granddaughter. Both granddaughters are awesome, but my other one lives at the southern end of the state and I only see her a couple of times a year.

I am happy to finally read a Kate Morton book…and I read one of Pekkanen’s books (The Opposite of Me) which I enjoyed.

      Enjoy your week!

  11. I like the new furniture changes that you’ve made, but was it really cool enough for Fiona to wear a scarf and jacket, or is she just being trendy (like my daughter does at times)? We’ve been having an unseasonable heat-wave here, ugh.
So many of your books look good, and I’m excited to see a few I’ve never heard of, such as A Place We Knew Well. I’m putting that on the list asap. Also didn’t know there was a new Scottoline, yay! And the new DeMaio cover is just gorgeous and makes me want to read a holiday time book soon.
Have a good week and enjoy your new office arrangement.

    1. No, that photo was actually taken when it was cooler…but I liked the outfit and her overall look, so I decided to go with it..LOL. Thanks for stopping by, Rita, and I definitely am enjoying the new furniture arrangement.

I am excited about the new Scottoline, the DeMaio, and A Place We Knew Well.

    1. Thanks for stopping by, Yvonne….and The Lake House is one of those novels that goes back and forth between the past and the present, and with each visit, we learn more about the characters. I am savoring it, so far.

That is so nice of your granddaughter to help you. I love your nook and how the curtains can quickly cover it up. You two did a great job with the changes. The Lake House sounds really good and I hope you enjoy all your new books. I hope you have a great week!

Hey, I love what you did with the office! It looks so homely and welcoming! Usually offices look so boring and quite “don’t come in here”, don’t you think? I love how bookish it is too 🙂 And the curtains to make it a bit more private if you’re working 🙂
    Great work!
