WEEKLY UPDATES: FALL DISTRACTIONS & CHANGES

Good morning! Today’s post will link up to The Sunday Salon, The Sunday Post and Stacking the Shelves, for weekly updates.

**Mailbox Monday is hosted at the home site: Mailbox Monday.

And let’s welcome Kathryn, our new leader in It’s Monday! What Are You Reading?, at The Book Date.

***

My week was spent mostly reading ONE book, although I then went on to finish another.  The book I spent so much time on was more than 500 pages and awesome, but I was distracted by other things.  Like prepping for carpet cleaning next week.  Who knew prepping could be so time-consuming?  Here is the preliminary Graveyard of my Stuff in the garage (below)….there will be more.

I also caught up on some TV shows returning from hiatus:  The Leftovers, The Affair, and How to Get Away with Murder.  (Did anyone read Tom Perrotta’s book The Leftovers?)  I loved it!

It rained this week, and while I usually love reading in the rain, I was annoyed…because of the thunder.  I was worried about a power outage.  But it didn’t happen!  Yay!

I haven’t read The leftovers, but I read his Abstinence teacher and loved it. I heard a lot of good about the girl with no past. Hey, we have the same computer mouse ! Enjoy your new books and have a relaxing week-end after all this prepping 🙂

  2. I love a good thunderstorm, but yes- only if the power stays on! We had a blackout last week, the whole block went out, but luckily it only lasted a few hours. Truth Be Told and Girl With No PAst both look good, I’ve been especially curious about Girl since I keep seeing it around.

Hope youe teeth feel better soon, there’s nothing I hate more than dental pain! Hope you have a very nice week (and good weather).

    1. Thanks for visiting, Greg, and I am definitely going to enjoy those books. As for my teeth, I have a temporary crown and will get the permanent one in a week.

So far, the weekend has been great…Immersed myself in Netflix and an Amazon Video called Barefoot.

  3. Thanks for the welcome in Laurel-Rain. A more than 500 pages book can throw a spanner in the works for reading a # of books in the week. However slowing down and really giving the attention to the book is important. I often tell myself to slow down and just appreciate it. Not signing up for so many challenges next year so hopefully slow me down a bit.
I have Smoke to read too, I think on NetGalley I just clicked a wish button and I got my wish. Who knew!

    1. Thanks for stopping by, Kathryn, and what fun you will have leading the Monday event!

I have been a Catherine McKenzie fan for a while…and Smoke looks very good to me. As for The Lake House, I am delighted that the lengthy book turned out to be so engaging. It was my first time reading this author.

Enjoy your week…and all your Monday visitors!

    1. Thanks for stopping by, Bea, and no…that pile is stuff that I’ve removed for the carpet cleaning. I might not bring them all back in afterwards, though. Haven’t decided! I know I’ll get rid of some of those magazines, however…even though I recycle them regularly, I seem to keep a lot. I don’t know why. LOL

    1. Thanks, Kimberly, and now I know why I don’t have carpets cleaned very often! Last time, my youngest son did it and it took all day. He’s thorough. He also grumbled a lot. LOL

My review of the long book (The Lake House) is on An Interior Journey.

  4. Thanks for linking up my post! And a 500 page does take a long time to read. I used to love big books but nowadays unless I absolutely love the book, I’d prefer if they were shorter than that. Hope you enjoy your new books, I like the look of The Girl with No Past.

  5. I started watching The Leftovers and during my time watching I bought the book but as usual still to read it and then I see the second series started in the UK this week so am miles behind need to get caught up on it all. I do like Justin Theroux in it!!

    Have a good week!

    1. Yes, he is very good in that show, isn’t he? Sometimes the story is all too grim, but I keep watching. I think I like the show better than the book…but it’s been a while since I read it. Thanks for stopping by, Heather.

    1. Yes, the fall shows are some of my favorites, although I also enjoy the mid-season returns of shows on TNT, etc. The Leftovers is on HBO (here, anyway). Thanks for visiting, Megan, and enjoy your week.

I really admire all the household/interior weeding through stuff that you do. I really need to do more of that – it’s like a TBR pile of everything!

    Like

    1. Yes, exactly! And that TBR pile has grown. Yesterday I took out my pub table and stools, some little shelves from the bedroom, my wicker love seat…it goes on and on and the blank spots in the rooms grow. LOL.

I was really lazy for a long time, Steph, and I guess this is the Year of Improvements for me. Thanks for stopping by.

  7. Your office space looks cozy! And I like the tiles in your blog frame – the flying books. Somehow I missed the switch to those. Good luck with your carpet cleaning. I’m sure you’ll be glad to be able to bring your things back into the house when it’s done!

    1. Yes, I just switched to them, Lark, after creating the new header. I’m still not sure I’m keeping this header…I am constantly changing them. LOL

Thanks for stopping by, and I’m glad you like my office space.

I love reading on rainy days but I don’t like the thunder and lightning. As soon as I hear and see that I gather our flashlights just to be safe. I was just thinking of cleaning our carpet and it does take a lot of moving furniture. But it is nice to see a clean carpet again. I hope you get to relax once the cleaning is done! Have a great week!

    1. I do the same thing when I hear thunder and see lightning…check my flashlights.

And yes, moving the smaller things is about the best I can do. They’ll have to clean around the big stuff, as I can’t move those pieces…LOL.

Thanks for stopping by, Kathy, and I’m looking forward to relaxing.

    1. I am enjoying the DeMaio book…her books always take me right into whatever small town the characters are in…while characters and shops from previous books show up again. Like Snowflakes and Coffee Cakes and Whole Latte Life.

I’m also glad I didn’t lose power…I really hate when that happens. Thanks for stopping by, Mary, and I’m loving my cozy space, too.

The Girl With No Past is popular this week … looking forward to your thoughts. I’ve also got Who Do You Love on my TBR mountain.

I keep putting off replacing the main bedroom carpet, it’s the only carpet I have in the house and it’s been down for 15 years and seen better days but it means clearing everything out, and just moving my books will be a nightmare. I need to just suck it up and get on with it lol.

Off to check out your review of The Lake House, I loved it. Have a great week and happy reading 🙂

    1. I have been noticing The Girl with No Past everywhere, and I couldn’t resist.

I hate the clearing out of things in order to get a new carpet. Since mine is just cleaning, I am only moving the smaller things. They will have to clean around the big stuff. Underneath the big stuff there won’t be any stains anyway…LOL.

Usually what I’ve done in the past when I don’t like the condition of the house…I just move! Don’t really think that’s a good option anymore.

      Thanks for stopping by, Teddyree.

  10. I’ve seen The Girl with No Past on quite a few blogs now over the past week or so… It must be a sign to check it out, psychological thrillers are some of my favourite reads.

    Happy Reading!

  11. You have been busy, busy! I am just plugging away! We have been sick, first me, now DH. No energy and cold medicine makes me sleepy, so reading is limited. My book club has The Liar’s Club on their schedule for next spring. I am looking forward to it.

    1. Thanks, Elizabeth, I am loving the coziness in this room. I will hole up here on Wednesday while they are cleaning the carpets in the rest of the house. This room has nobody tracking in and out, and we recently moved the furniture around, so it doesn’t really need it! A safe place to hide. LOL.

I loved The Lake House…enjoy your week!

  13. What a busy week you had! Carpet cleaning, yuck, what a hassle!
I like Hank Phillippi Ryan so I need to read that title, and the Kathryn Croft book I’ve seen around the blogosphere and am curious about it. And Joanne DeMaio, well I just loved her holiday book last year so I have to take a peek at this one. I’ve heard of The Leftovers– didn’t know it was a tv show also. Something else to check out, thanks Laurel.

    1. Thanks, Rita, and I see that you visited my review of The Leftovers….I can’t believe it was almost four years since I read it. But it stayed with me!

I enjoyed the one Hank Phillippi Ryan book I’ve read, so I’m eager to dive into this one…and I just finished the DeMaio book. It left me feeling so cheerful….

As for the carpet cleaning, the prep work continues and every day brings more blank spaces in my rooms…LOL.

  14. There’s nothing like a clean carpet to lift the spirits except, that is, for a good book. Love your cozy office space. I’ve a few 500+ novels in my TBR pile, but need to be in the right frame of mind to tackle these. I’m a fan of Kate Morton, so I’m off to check out your review of The Lake House. Enjoy your week!

    1. Thanks, Yvonne, and I agree about how great a clean carpet is…in fact, I dream about it now that my rooms are dismantled. LOL.

I also have to be in the right frame of mind for long books….eager to read another by Kate Morton at some point. Enjoy your week.

    1. Thanks, Sam, and I’ll be happy to end this purging and clearing phase of my life! LOL

We don’t have power outages often here, but when it happens, I feel helpless, even though I have flashlights in every room. Thanks for stopping by.

  15. Well you made it through the Lake House. Good for you. The Smoke cover looks pretty enticing for a read. I should read Tom Perrotta’s book The Leftovers. I really liked is novel The Wishbones. That was long ago but good! His writing is entertaining.
