WEEKLY UPDATES: A MOSTLY UNREMARKABLE WEEK….

picmonkey-image-february-updates

Good morning! Today’s post will link up to The Sunday Salon, The Sunday Post and Stacking the Shelves, for weekly updates.

**Mailbox Monday is hosted at the home site: Mailbox Monday.

And let’s join Kathryn, our leader in It’s Monday! What Are You Reading?, at Book Date.

We had some rain this week, but on other days, the sun made an appearance.  Then the clouds hung overhead, like a foreshadowing of more rain to come.  I stayed in most of the time, though, but only read and reviewed THREE books this week, bringing my challenge total up to SIXTEEN.

I did manage one outing on Monday to the Passport Place, at the university,  where they now handle passport applications and renewals.  It’s hard to believe that it’s been ten years already!  That day was so windy that I felt like I was flying across the parking lot.

I didn’t even connect to Netflix this week, but enjoyed the return of some of the shows I like:  The Fosters, Switched at Birth, and the TGIT lineup.

So…what next?  I must have done more this week, since I only read three books…but obviously the events were not that remarkable.   Oh, right, I did change up the theme, background, and header here…and the header over at Serendipity.  If that counts.

Grab some coffee…and a mimosa, and let’s chat.

  1. We got a little sun but not much- but for mid- February in Michigan it’s not bad. 🙂 I didn’t watch any Netflix either, but I am watching a few non- Netflix shows so I’m not totally divorced from the screen. lol

My Husband’s Wife looks like a good thriller. And that title… has me curious. That’s a pretty good looking key lime pie lol.

  2. Isn’t it funny how sometimes weeks are over and, whilst you don’t feel like you’ve maybe done a lot, you don’t seem to have had the free time to do things like reading either? They happen to me a lot! I like the look of My Husband’s Wife – it’s on the list but when I’ll get there to read it who knows.

    1. Thanks, Emma, and these past couple of weeks, I have felt as though nothing much has happened. But I do recall enjoying the books I’ve read…LOL. My Husband’s Wife is different from what I expected, but I’m liking it so far.

      Have a great week!

  3. “Only” three books sounds pretty good to me! I wish I was that quick most weeks! XD Great haul too! I’ve always been interested in Z but I’ve never had the chance to read it. Enjoy all your new books and have a great week!

    Here’s my Weekly Recap!

    1. Thanks for visiting, Tracy, and yes, three is a pretty good number. Just because I read four last week and the week before…I tend to compete against my own numbers. LOL.

After seeing the Amazon Video, Z: The Beginning of Everything, I had to get the book. I knew that more info would be in the book. I’ve also heard good things about it.

      Enjoy your week!

    1. Thanks, Kathryn, and pie is definitely an indulgence…and my breakfast was Special K.

Pie is usually a weekend thing, but I need to curb my impulses there. LOL.

Enjoy your week! I hope to read The Fifth Letter soon.

    1. Thanks for visiting, Olivia, and I don’t often connect with the teen shows on Freeform (the Channel where the shows happen here), but I really love The Fosters because of my history as a social worker.

And yes, the Key Lime Pie is a favorite.

  4. You always have such intersting books on your TBR pile. I am jealous. I think what happens to me is I have to read two books a month for book club and they are books I am not especially excited to read, usually. But then I enjoy them so I don’t mind. And as a teen librarian I feel like I should some YA. Very little time is left for just plain ol’ adult books. Some day. Some day soon.!

    1. Yes, isn’t it a hoot!? My daughter got it for me.

We used to be able to get our passports at the P.O., but now they’re not doing it here. My daughter found this Passport Place at the university.

Enjoy your week, Nise, and thanks for visiting. I think The Vanishing Year will be good, too.

You’re lucky you had some sunny days. We had 4 days in a row of rain. It was crazy but I love the sound of rain (it’s so calming) but hate the traffic it causes lol. I need to renew our passports too and dreading spending the money lol. But it’s good to have in case I want to quit my job and fly off to Paris lol. I hope you enjoy your reading for this week and have some nice weather. Have a great week!

    1. Ha….I know what you mean, Kathy. I don’t like the process of getting the passport, but it’s nice to have it…just in case.

I don’t know what the weather will be today….but it isn’t raining. Enjoy! And let’s dream of Paris.

  6. Sounds like you had a mixed bag weather wise! Hope it makes its mind up! Ours was full of rain and flooding, highly unusual for summer.
It looks like you have been busy blogging and three completed books is a solid week reading wise.
I just saw a pro for Nicola Moriarty this morning – to pre-order signed copies of The Fifth Letter, it looks good.
My Husband’s Wife looks like my kind of read, enjoy that one.
Good to see a high rating for Behind Her Eyes, I must start that one soon!

    1. Thanks, Amanda, I hope you enjoy your reading, and I am also eager to read The Fifth Letter. I’m enjoying My Husband’s Wife so far. I thought I would have finished it yesterday, but I got hooked on binge-watching Scandal, a show I’ve never seen before, despite its presence on my TGIT favorite lineup.

I was surprised to get hooked on it, as the previews I saw over the years turned me off. Who knew?

  7. I spent the weekend in, too, but here it was snow rather than rain! It’s my favorite weather, so I don’t mind it too much.
I’ll be looking forward to your thoughts on My Husband’s Wife, it intrigues me a lot but I’ve been hesitant about reading it, with so many other books waiting! Have a great week!

    1. Thanks for visiting, Kay, and I haven’t heard many good things about snow. I don’t mind the rain until it starts flooding on the streets, or pounding so hard that skylights get knocked down…LOL.

Enjoy your week, and I’m liking My Husband’s Wife so far, but it isn’t what I expected.

    1. Thanks, Kathy, I am excited about both these books, too…and I’m always surprised by the weather. Now that I think about it, we’ve had quite a bit of rain, and not so much fog. That works for me…it is too scary to drive in the fog.

  8. Despite getting a lot of reading in, I’m so behind on my reading challenges. But I decided that I’m not going to let that bother me.

I love key lime pie! One of the things on my bucket list is eat one while visiting The Florida Keys. 🙂 ~Aleen

    1. For the past couple of years, I’ve only participated in one challenge, the Read the Books You Buy event. That one works for me.

Thanks for visiting, Aleen, and eating key lime pie in The Florida Keys sounds perfect! Plus, reading a mystery set there.

Our weather has been much the same. It’s sunny and warm out right now–but we’ll be getting more rain towards the end of the week. I’ve been following the news about the dam in Oroville. Scary stuff! I hope you have a great week and get in some good reading time!

    1. It is scary when a dam overflows…I was living beneath a dam in the foothills when it overflowed (in 1997), and we had to evacuate for a few days. Luckily, no damage to my house, which was on a hill. But surreal to get that knock on the door in the middle of the night. We were all packed and ready to go, but hoping not to have to do so.

Thanks for stopping by, Wendy, and let’s hope it ends well for the Oroville folks. (I came close to living there in the 70s, but we went in another direction).

      Have a great week.

  10. Hi Laurel, I just got back from a weekend in the San Fran/San Jose area and had a wonderful time; it was clear & sunny all three days! Wahoo. Beautiful area. We took a nice walk/hike in the Los Gatos area then went to a winery! Which Kindle model do you have? I’m trying to find a good one. Also that book title My Husband’s Wife is one I keep trying to figure out …. I hope you enjoy it.

    1. I love the Bay Area (except for driving in it!), and passed through there last summer on our way to Crescent City.

Today my granddaughter was visiting here, from the San Jose area. She loves it there.

I have the Kindle Paperwhite, and I love it. I’ve only had two versions, so far: the basic and this one. I am quite happy with it and hope it never dies.

My Husband’s Wife is pretty good…although the characters are pretty unlikable. That won’t bother me a lot if the plot keeps going in this same pace.

      Enjoy your week, Susan.

  11. Ooh, pie! I wish there was a pie place where you can do a taster of several like how you can with beer. There is a local pie place I do want to try. Maybe for Valentine’s Day tomorrow I’ll pick one up as I already plan to make lasagna for the crew.

    1. I think the place where I get most of my pies (Marie Callender’s) would offer a taste test or two…I know they’ve let me sample the soups.

But we probably couldn’t go crazy, or anything. LOL.

Thanks for visiting, Stefanie, and pie on Valentine’s Day sounds perfect.

  12. Only three?? Wow, I get one finished and I’m fairly happy 🙂

Doing passport applications at a University actually sounds a bit more refreshing than heading on down to a dingy little passport office. I hope it was simple!

I love the cover for Z. It’s stunning!

Also I love the look of the Key Lime Pie and the coffee! How perfect!

Hope you’re having another good week!

    1. Thanks for visiting, Di, and yes, I sometimes read more, so when I’m competing with myself, I feel disappointed. But it’s silly.

I may not even make three books this week…I don’t know what I’ve done with the time!

The last time I got a passport, it was at the post office…not too bad. But the university place was more fun. And I think I’ll be getting my new passport soon, as the check I wrote went through my bank this week. Surely the passport won’t be far behind!

I love the cover of Z, too…and loved that Key Lime Pie.
