WEEKLY UPDATES: HOT, HOT, HOT!!!

Good morning! Today’s post will link up to The Sunday Salon, The Sunday Post and Stacking the Shelves, for weekly updates.

**Mailbox Monday is hosted at the home site: Mailbox Monday.

And let’s join Kathryn, our leader in It’s Monday! What Are You Reading?, at Book Date.

It is hot, hot, hot!  Yes, every year we begin summer with triple digits…but this year, we had some lovely 80 degree weather leading up to this scorching hot season.  However, it is perfect for staying indoors in the AC…reading, blogging, watching TV.  I love the new Netflix season on Wentworth…more than the Orange Is the New Black fifth season, which I finished anyway.

I read and reviewed three books...and I’m halfway through my fourth one, which I was sure I would finish before now.  But I’m savoring it.

My total for the Read the Books You Buy Challenge is…wait for it!  52!

Let’s grab some coffee…and/or breakfast, and chat.

Yeah tripe digits- ugh. I think I’d be staying indoors too lol. Girl in Snow and Here and Gone both look pretty good. Here and Gone looks like a good thriller, I’ll have to investigate further. 🙂

Ooh Watching the detectives! I usually jump right on the Mulhern books but I don’t have that one yet. Can’t wait to catch up with Ellison though lol. And The Bokshop at Water’s edge looks good too.

    Mmm yummy soup.

    1. Thanks, Kimberly, I’ve been loving the books from my own shelves…and I also like the look of Here and Gone, which I haven’t heard a lot about.

Yes, hot weather can be staggering…but AC works its magic. Enjoy your week!

  2. Mmm. Coffee and breakfast sounds perfect! I need to do that.

I’m glad you’re back to wonderful reading weeks and I hope that you are really enjoying that fourth read!

Temperatures here have been plummeting to frostiness although I admit our winter is super mild and doesn’t really get below zero often so my frosty isn’t really super cold… It’s cold to me though! 😂

I’m off to get me some of that delicious coffee and maybe even bake scones which seems like a good idea today! Happy Sunday!

    1. Thanks, Anna, I’m chugging along with the challenge. I do need to find a challenge that encourages reading some of the older books, too. Maybe next year! Luckily, there aren’t a lot of those. Have a great week!

  3. Triple digits – wow (though I did notice that where we are going for our holidays next month had three digits for today but so not something I’m used to). I haven’t read any of your books this week other than Good Me, Bad Me, which I loved and haven’t heard of any that you’ve added – unusual as we normally share some picks. I’ve now got my eye on a few though so I see a trip to Amazon coming.

  4. So hot, so early in the season!! That is definitely weather to stay indoors for reading and television! I hope to get to the next book in Julie Mulhern’s Country Club Murders sometime this summer, too. Try to stay cool and have a good week.

    1. Thanks, JoAnn, I have been loving the Country Club Murders series…and I’m ready for another episode.

Actually, our hot weather usually starts early, sometimes even earlier than June, but we got a reprieve until now with some 80 degree days. Those are over, I’m sure. Enjoy your week!

    1. Thanks for visiting, Erin, and I’m relatively new to Bohjalian’s books, but loved Midwives, The Guest Room, and The Sleepwalker…so I’m ready for more of his style.

The lunch was yummy…now I am wondering if I should go again today! LOL.

  5. Yes, we have the triple digits too, though we are more like 90-something, thank goodness for small favors. We’re cleaning/packing/stressing moving details…. the heat does not help when we have to work in our steaming garage where many boxes are, so that chore’s being pushed back again.

So many good books! You are on a roll lately! I’ve only read 2 of our titles:Fairy Tale Interrupted last year, and I too wish there was more personal info and photos included. I hate to think that she was cashing in on her 10 minutes of fame (by association) by writing this book. Also the Chris Bohjalian one which I really enjoyed.

I do want to read Lost and Found Sisters very soon. Also The Summer House and Here and Gone.

Keep cool and relaxed, and enjoy your week of reading and binge-watching 🙂

    1. Thanks for visiting, Rita; moving (and packing) in the summer is the worst, and I always seem to do just that. Hang in there, and stick to morning and late evenings, maybe.

Enjoy your week! I am looking forward to the Bohjalian book…and The Summer House.

It was hot here in Sacramento too but the temperatures are cooling down now. You have listed so many books I need to get. The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, Lost & Found Sisters and Julie Mulhern’s series is on my tbr. I hope you enjoy these and have a great (and cooler) week!

    1. Thanks for visiting, Kathy, and I do recall hot weather in Sacramento when I lived there, but it always felt slightly cooler than it is here. More trees, perhaps?

Enjoy your week, and thanks for visiting.

  7. Your weather sounds really really hot! Definitely a good time for TV and books.

I love Wentworth. I have to check out the new season. I’m slowly getting through OITNB. So many good books on your list, especially the Jill Shalvis book. Enjoy and have a great week!

    1. Thanks for visiting, Yvonne, and it is definitely hot! While I enjoy OITNB, I’ve found myself really loving the characters in Wentworth…and rooting for certain ones. I love Franky, although I remember that I didn’t like her at first. I HATE Joan Ferguson! Such a freak, right? LOL.

I have never read Jill Shalvis, but love the look of Lost and Found Sisters. Enjoy your week!

  8. I’ve been hearing some great things about ‘The Lost and Found Sisters’ by Jill Shalvis. I definitely need to read that one.
    AC’s are great aren’t they?! 😀
How awesome that you’ve been able to read and review three books. I’m hoping my upcoming week will be like that!
Have a great week and happy reading!

  9. Oh some fabulous NG books and buys. I will be interested to see what you think of the Susan E Phillips book, I love her books and this one was a bit of a different kind for her with a slightly gothic feel to it, but I still loved it, although quite a few of her fans didn’t.
That weather sure is hot, I’d hate it I do believe!

  10. I completely forgot until reading your Weekly Update that I have The Girl in the Snow from NetGalley too! I just haven’t downloaded it yet! It looks good, so I hope that it is! Wow, triple digits! We’ve had most days in the upper 80’s and that is what the forecast is calling for this week, but we should hit the 90’s and possibly the triple digits by the middle of July. I dread that! I hate to be hot! Stay cool!

    1. Thanks, Stephanie, I hadn’t heard anything about Girl in Snow, but after reading the Amazon blurb and the comparison to other books I’d enjoyed, I decided to take a chance on it.

Let’s hope we enjoy it! And stay cool while reading.

  11. Yum! That soup looks good! I’ll be really curious to see what you think of the Susan Elizabeth Phillips. I had really mixed feelings about it but SEP is so readable I couldn’t put it down! I need to go on and buy The Lost and Found Sisters. I love Jill Shalvis and I really want to read it. Have a great week and stay cool!

    1. Thanks, Katherine, and I’ve been meaning to try Jill Shalvis for a while now, and this one sounds like a good place to begin.

I have also enjoyed many books by Susan Elizabeth Phillips. Thanks for stopping by, and have a great week.

    NICE WEEK and NICE MAILBOX.

LOST AND FOUND SISTERS looks quite good.

I keep seeing THE SEVEN HUSBANDS OF EVELYN HUGO….it definitely must be good.

THE SUMMER HOUSE was really good.

THE BOOKSHOP AT WATER’S END is popular too. I actually received it this past week and am having a spotlight and giveaway for the book starting on July 13.

I saw you finished THE SUNSHINE SISTERS. Good to hear you enjoyed it.

Have a WONDERFUL reading week, Laurel.

    1. Thanks, Elizabeth, that office coffee table is an old wicker trunk, and it is used as storage, too. I have memorabilia inside and it serves nicely as a coffee table as well.

I am looking forward to my new books, especially those from authors I haven’t yet tried, like Jill Shalvis, or new favorites like Taylor Jenkins Reid.

Thanks for stopping by, and have a great week.

    1. Thanks, Jo-Ann, I loved reading a diverse collection of books this past week, and plan to do the same in the new week.

I am definitely enjoying the AC…and keeping my fingers crossed that the power doesn’t go out, as that would do away with the AC…sigh.

      Enjoy your week!

  13. 52 books you bought — Well Done! Your weather is hotter than ours. We got up a couple of mornings to very muggy weather on our balcony even though temperatures were in the 80s – 90s. Glad you are enjoying your time indoors. That lunch looks nice. You have some good books lined up. Happy Reading!

    1. Thanks, Martha, and there hasn’t been any patio time for me this past week. Even early mornings are too warm out there.

I am happy that I have been able to read a lot of the books I’ve bought this year and in the last half of 2016. I also need to spend some time reading older books on my stacks.

      Enjoy your week!

    1. I appreciate it especially since I haven’t always had it. When I lived in the foothills for 13 years, we only had an evaporative cooler, which does nothing for triple digits. LOL.

Your week does sound a bit chaotic…enjoy! Thanks for visiting, Sarah.

  14. I added The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo to my shelves too, I heard so many great things about it! I’m also enjoying the pretty cover.
I sort of lost interest in Orange is the New Black a couple seasons back, and I still can’t decide whether I want to give it a second chance. Wentworth looks great though!
    Have a great week!

    1. Yes, OITNB is no longer my favorite “prison” show, although I still watched it. Wentworth is now my favorite, probably because the characters feel like people I can root for.

Thanks for stopping by, Kay, and enjoy your week.

  15. I hate triple digits. It is too hot to do anything.. Lol I would stay indoors also. Your books that you got last week look good. I am especially interested in the GIRL IN SNOW ONE. We had a heat wave of 90 degrees here in Cleveland, then it got down to the 70’s. Perfect for outside reading time.

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Oh, 70s sound really good! However, I’ve come to accept the triple digits that seem to last longer than I would like, but as long as the AC is working, I can cope.

Enjoy your week, Hillary, and thanks for visiting.

    1. I miss the cool mornings we once had, earlier in the season, but maybe we’ll soon have one to break up the heat wave. Enjoy!

  16. Wow, those are some hot temperatures. Looks like you have a lot of books to keep you cool. I really need a copy of that Jill Shavis book. Is it part of a series? I don’t read a lot of her stuff but know she has a lot of series out. Hope you manage to stay cool and enjoy the week ahead!

    1. Thanks for visiting, Barb, and it doesn’t appear to be part of a series. It is listed as the author’s “first women’s fiction” book. I’ve never read the author, so this will be my first of any of her reads.

Books and AC are my friends these days!

  17. We haven’t hit triple digit heat yet, but it has been in the 90s. And the humidity…UGH. oppressive. But we’re cool today thanks to the remnants of that tropical storm from the gulf. I’ll take it. Have a great reading week

Listening to a book on a road trip might be the only way I’ll do audiobooks. It does sound kind of fun to listen with your mom.

      Enjoy your new books.

    1. Oh, yes, Susan, I do believe that Girl in Snow will keep me up at night…I am sure that it is a page-turner. That is definitely a strawberry margarita, which has turned into my favorite.

My week has been mostly at home in the AC, which is working. I may venture out tomorrow, as the temperature is supposed to drop to the 90s. LOL.
