WEEKLY UPDATES: MORE HEAT, READING, & SOME PAMPERING….

Good morning! Today’s post will link up to The Sunday Salon, The Sunday Post and Stacking the Shelves, for weekly updates.

**Mailbox Monday is hosted at the home site: Mailbox Monday.

And let’s join Kathryn, our leader in It’s Monday! What Are You Reading?, at Book Date.

Luckily the AC kept me cool indoors, where I’ve hidden out from the ongoing triple digits.   As a result, I read and reviewed FOUR more wonderful books this week, bringing my Read the Books You Buy Challenge to 61.

My viewing this week has been sporadic, but I’ve finished the Netflix Season I of Gypsy, and have added a few more to my queue, like the movie Lion, along with Shetland...and Father Brown.  I’ve heard good things.

I continue watching Broadchurch, and started a new show on Freeform called The Bold Type.

I braved the heat and headed to the cool nail salon for some pampering with a mani-pedi..and changed up my nail color from dark purple to red.

So…now as I eat breakfast and sip a cup of coffee in my office, I contemplate my reading and blogging for the week:

  1. Like the red polish, wahoo! Goes well with a margarita. I didn’t realize there’s a new Joyce Maynard novel coming out … thx for the head’s up on that. Enjoy your week, and keep cool. cheers!

    1. Thanks, Susan, I realized that I very seldom change up my nail color, and it was long overdue. LOL.

Joyce Maynard’s new book is a memoir, but I love her nonfiction books as much as her fiction ones. She can tell a good story, whether it is fiction or not.

      Enjoy your week.

I really like Shetland, and I’m thinking about Gypsy. I don’t know much about it but someone mentioned it being interesting. Nice job- four books!

Sunday Morning Coming Down looks like something I’d like. And Prague looks like an amazing city- I hope to go there one day.

    Soup looks delish.

    1. Maybe I’ll get around to Shetland tomorrow. What I loved about Gypsy was Naomi Watts’ performance. She totally immersed herself in the role and kept me engaged throughout.

Thanks for visiting, Greg, and I hope to keep toppling those books off my shelves. Enjoy your week!

Wow, all 4 and 5 star reviews this week… love those reading purple patches. Isn’t the Chamberlain title’s cover art beautiful – happy reading!

    1. Thanks, Jo, I love that cover, too, and I’m eager to read the book. It will be a while, as there are others ahead of it in the queue. But I’m excited about all of my upcoming reads.

Enjoy your week, and thanks for stopping by.

    1. Thanks, Maree, I used to do my own nails…what a job! I’m right-handed, so my left hand didn’t look too bad, but the right was usually pretty much a mess. LOL.

I like the idea of a Zen moment. Enjoy your week!

    1. Thanks, Evelina, NetGalley can make our days! Whenever I see one of their e-mails, I close my eyes for a minute, wishing, and then open to see if I got a book I wished for…or got denied. The denials happen less often, thankfully.

Enjoy! Glad you could stop by.

  4. Ooo… love the nails, Laurel. I’ve currently got a zingy teal on my nails, which looks great when contrasted with the hair:)). You have had another storming reading week – I love the look of The Rules of Magic and look forward to reading what you make of it. I hope you have another great week. My Sunday Post –

    1. Thanks, Sarah, and that teal color does sound awesome! I may get brave enough to really branch out, after years of purple, navy, and black nails, now that the red feels like a new direction.

Enjoy your week, and thanks for stopping by.

  5. It sounds like you have a great week!
Nice mani! And I agree about staying inside as much as possible during this weather. I really like Shetland and Father Brown. Both are favorites of mine. I haven’t watched Gypsy. I’ll have to check that out.

Hope you have another good reading week!

    1. Thanks for visiting, Jan, and I always love finding a new Netflix show or series. I started watching the movie Lion yesterday, but stopped so that I could read a while.

Enjoy your week, and I hope you find Gypsy as engaging as I did.

  6. I’ve been hiding inside with the a/c going because of the humidity. It’s more comfortable inside 🙂 You have a great list of books. They all look so good. I loved both Bring Her Home and The Child. I want to give Gypsy a try. That looks good. Have a great week!

    1. Thanks, Yvonne, I hope you enjoy Gypsy. I binge-watched it a couple of weekends ago, and I might just have to watch it again. I loved it that much.

I am looking forward to Bring Her Home…and just finished Agnes Nixon’s memoir My Life to Live. As you know, I’m a soap fan.

      Enjoy your week!

    1. Thanks for visiting, Jenea, and I am loving the nail color, too, although it took some getting used to after the purples and blacks. LOL.

I am also looking forward to Secrets She Keeps. Have a great week!

I love the upcoming NetGalley books…and hope I can read them all fast enough, while still reading a few of the books I bought. Enjoy your week!

It’s been hot here in Sacramento and I try to do my errands early in the morning while it’s still cool. But if I do go out during the day my car’s AC is on full blast lol. I hope we both get some cooler weather soon! I love the nail color! I usually just do a french manicure but I tried a pastel peach color for my last manicure. I like it and will now try another color lol. I hope you have a great week!

    1. Thanks, Kathy, I always think of Sacramento as hot, but more comfortable than here…because of all the big trees. Or maybe because I was young back when I lived there, and heat didn’t bother me as much. LOL.

Enjoy your week, and french nails are nice. I tend toward the darker colors.

    1. Ha, yes, friends of mine look askance at me when I order soup, but it never feels “out of season.” As long as I have a cold drink, I’m good.

I like my stack of books, too, and I’m already LOVING The Marriage Pact. It is creepy/good and I am having a hard time putting it down to do anything else.

Thanks for visiting, Laura, and enjoy your week.

  8. I have been living in the dark ACed cave of the living room. It’s like a cave. The only light that reaches in is through the back door. Since I didn’t grow up with AC (even in hot ass Central TX), I have the blanket with me at all times and wear it most of the day! Still, I love the AC. Your nails look great! I’m not sure what color I should do next. Have a great week!

    1. Thanks for visiting, Charlie, and we didn’t have AC growing up, even though it was here in the Central Valley…we had an evaporative cooler and oscillating fans. AC was a treat the first time I got it!

Enjoy your AC cave…and your books! Glad you like the nails.

    1. Thanks for visiting, Kathryn, and you can always add the Hoffman book later. I’m trying to take the attitude that I can wait on some of the books I want…although this week, I didn’t seem to do that! Enjoy your week.

Thank goodness for air conditioning and good books. I have heard of most of the ones on your stack but haven’t read any of them. Come see my week here. Happy reading!

    1. Thanks for visiting, Kathy, and I don’t know how I could manage without AC, although I lived for 13 years in a house in the foothills that only had evaporative cooling! When the triple digits hit, that doesn’t work.

      Enjoy your week!

    1. Thanks, Sarah, I’m getting used to the color change. The heat, not so much, although I’ve certainly had lots of practice years in these parts to get used to it. Thankfully, there is AC. I am loving my reading…enjoy yours, and thanks for visiting.

  10. I have the Hoffman and the Bell book as well, I have my fingers crossed. Nervous about the Hoffman book as I really hated Pracitcal Magic, but I loved the movie. I hope it is good! I also hope that you get cooler temps soon. We are living it up with upper seventies and low eighties, perfect!

  11. We have an appointment with an AC company; I hope my husband doesn’t change his mind. Corn chowder sounds yummy. I made and corn and zucchini one once; it was light and perfect when I was on a soft diet. Oh, I hear the dryer’s buzzer; off to fold clothes.
