EAGERLY ANTICIPATING:
Behind the Red Door, by Megan Collins (Release Date – 8/4/20)
Synopsis: The author of the “suspenseful, atmospheric, and completely riveting” (Megan Miranda, New York Times bestselling author) debut The Winter Sister returns with a darkly thrilling novel about a woman who comes to believe that she has a connection to a decades old kidnapping and now that the victim has gone missing again, begins a frantic search to learn what happened in the past.
When Fern Douglas sees the news about Astrid Sullivan, a thirty-four-year-old missing woman from Maine, she is positive that she knows her. Fern’s husband is sure it’s because of Astrid’s famous kidnapping—and equally famous return—twenty years ago, but Fern has no memory of that, even though it happened an hour outside her New Hampshire hometown. And when Astrid appears in Fern’s recurring nightmare, one in which a girl reaches out to her, pleading, Fern fears that it’s not a dream at all, but a memory.
Back at her childhood home to help her father pack for a move, Fern purchases a copy of Astrid’s recently published memoir—which may have provoked her original kidnapper to abduct her again—and as she reads through its chapters and visits the people and places within it, she discovers more evidence that she has an unsettling connection to the missing woman. With the help of her psychologist father, Fern digs deeper, hoping to find evidence that her connection to Astrid can help the police locate her. But when Fern discovers more about her own past than she ever bargained for, the disturbing truth will change both of their lives forever.

I had a great reading week, finishing books I enjoyed. Two of them were NetGalley ARCs, so my schedule on that front is clear until August 11, after which I only have one in September and another in December. What did your week look like?

I almost picked Friebds & Strangers for Book of the month! I hope
You are enjoying it! Happy reading!

I am enjoying it so far, Leslie, although I read so much yesterday that I had to set it aside after only a couple of chapters. Eye strain! Enjoy your week and your books.

Ohh, I hate when that happens! Sometimes it happens and you just can’t read for a while. Enjoy your week! 💜

Looks like another week of thrilling reads and well done on clearing down your ARCs (I never manage this)! My week has been better now I am enjoying the school’s summer break and I finished two books. Happy reading in the coming week! 😃

Clearing down my ARCs only works when I have scheduled them in a spaced-out fashion each month. Nowadays I am passing some by, as the stress is more than I need right now.
Enjoy your reading and your week, Jessica.

I’m impressed you’re so on top of your ARC schedule. That’s something I haven’t yet succeeded in doing, especially when lots of books are due to be published on the same date. Next Thursday, 6th August seems to be a big day for new releases here in the UK. I hope you continue to enjoy your bookish moments.

I made the mistake when I first started reading ARCs of grabbing all the books on offer. Then I would find myself scramming as the release dates approached. Now I try to arrange them better on the calendar, which means passing some by. Sigh.
Enjoy your week and your books, Cathy.

I think we ALL make that mistake when we begin…and learn by bitter experience 😀

The Safe Place is a yes for me but it is terrible that I am too creeped out by the empty swing to even consider Playing Nice? Empty children’s areas always prove too much for me. Have a wonderful week!

Really appreciated your review of Playing Nice. That’s a premise you see played for laughs on old sitcoms, so I never seriously thought about the ramifications. This sounds like an adult book. I’ll have to keep an eye out for it.

Thanks, Gal, I liked the twists in this one, and I was pretty emotional at some of the scenes. I could see how these events would play out in such a serious way.

I’m still loving the cover of The Safe Space, and it’s so funny how peaceful and tranquil it looks when the book is obviously … not haha. Behind the Red Door looks fabulous, and I can see why you’re looking forward to it. Enjoy your reading!

Thanks, Sammie, I like how a cover can hide the darkness in a book.
