WEEKLY UPDATES: MORE HEAT, LESS READING….

Good morning! Today’s post will link up to The Sunday Salon, The Sunday Post and Stacking the Shelves, for weekly updates.

**Mailbox Monday is hosted at the home site: Mailbox Monday.

And let’s join Kathryn, our leader in It’s Monday! What Are You Reading?, at Book Date.

This morning, I woke up and started doing household tasks that I’ve put off all week.  Yes, I had done some things during the week, and I always keep things picked up…but my most hated chores are scrubbing floors!  So that’s what I’ve been doing today.  Done, now!  Just waiting for the bathroom rugs to dry.  I am trying to stay cool, although even with the AC on, floor scrubbing definitely brought up my heat levels.

Reading was good, but not phenomenal.  Three books read and reviewed, and since two of them were review ARCs, my Read the Books You Buy Challenge only went up one, now totaling 64 books.

I finished watching Shetland on Netflix...loved it!  Now I have to find another series!  I have added some to my queue:  Ozark, Friends from College, and Father Brown.  Has anyone seen them?  I’ve enjoyed catching up on my TV shows, like Broadchurch and The Fosters.  A new show I’m watching:  The Bold Type.

So…that’s where some of my reading time went.  And I finally went out to shop a little and had a late lunch one day.  The usual food photo:  soup and a margarita (see at the bottom of this post).

Here’s what morning in my office looks like:

INCOMING BOOKS: (Titles/Covers Linked to Amazon)

Empty mailbox!  But I did purchase one newly released e-book.

The Lying Game (e-book), by Ruth Ware

Atmospheric, twisty, and with just the right amount of chill that will keep you wrong-footed—which has now become Ruth Ware’s signature style—The Lying Game is sure to be her next big bestseller. Another unputdownable thriller from the Agatha Christie of our time.

Can’t wait!

WHAT’S NEXT?

Still Reading:  Emma in the Night (e-book), by Wendy Walker (NG-8-8)

***

Because my next NetGalley review books won’t be released until late August and September, I think I’ll try some of my purchased TBR books, like this one:

Sunday Morning Coming Down, (A Frieda Klein Novel), by Nicci French

***

The Bookshop on the Corner (e-book), by Jenny Colgan

That was my week!  What did yours look like?  (Below), my Thursday late afternoon repast:  It is very familiar, isn’t it?  But what can I say…I love that soup and that margarita.

  1. Soup and Margarita sounds and looks yummy!

I’m finishing up House of Cards now. I watched one episode of Ozark and that was good. Eventually I will watch that one too. I think there’s only one season of it so far. The Lying Game looks really good. Have a great week!

    1. Thanks, Yvonne, I love finding new shows to binge-watch…but then we have to wait for more seasons after we finish what is available.

I think I have to find a show that’s all done…so when I’ve watched all the seasons, that’s it.

I am excited about The Lying Game. Enjoy your week!

Love that picture! Looks cozy. And I love Shetland, but I haven’t finished it yet. I had little time this week for TV so I’m still on season three… after that I’m not sure what to watch, but I keep hearing about Ozark.

I’m reading The Lying Game now (and mostly loving it) and Emma in the Night is on my list too. I preorderd it .

Soup and a margarita- woo hoo!!!

    1. Thanks, Greg, glad you enjoyed the picture. I stopped reading for a while today to watch a movie with Katherine Heigl and Rosario Dawson…an intense thriller with craziness all the way through. (Unforgettable).

I tend to order the same soups…I have two or three favorites. And it’s either that margarita or a pomegranate martini.

Enjoy your week! I wonder if Shetland will have more seasons?

  3. I love your office. I wish there were enough rooms for me to have my own space. I tried starting Friends from College and didn’t like it. I hope you enjoy it. Have you watched Riverdale? It was good. I finished two books this week. I read mostly in the car the other day while traveling. Your day out sounds fun…scrubbing those floors, not so much. LOL Glad you got the chore over. I have some of my own I need to do. Happy watching and reading!

    1. Thanks, Charlie, and when I actually stop procrastinating, it doesn’t take that long to do the cleaning…since the space is small. But I really hate the scrubbing…LOL.

I started Riverdale, but didn’t like it. I may skip Friends from College, as I prefer mysteries/suspense shows.

My little office nook, with my laptop and all my desk stuff, is not visible in that photo. I can’t manage to photograph the whole room. But I like how it’s arranged now, which wasn’t how I had it the first eight years I lived here…LOL. I had a brainstorm one day.

    1. I try to avoid scrubbing, too, Kathryn…sometimes spot-wiping works in a pinch…LOL.

I prefer reading, blogging, and binge-watching almost anything. Thanks for the reminder about the mid-year link-up.

    1. Thanks, Evelina, and I do love the treat of a Margarita, although I tend to have one at least once a week these days. Hot days and all. I’m glad you like the office. My little nook, with my desk, etc., doesn’t show in the photo…it’s off on the right side, and so are some bookshelves and a comfy chair.

Enjoy your reading and your week!

    1. Thanks for visiting, Lexxie, and yes, laundry is much more tedious with lots of people. I just have myself, so it is pretty easy. Housework is not as troublesome as I make it sound, since the place stays pretty clean…but I procrastinate so much that the tasks become very annoying. LOL.

I finished Emma in the Middle and really loved it! Enjoy your week….

    1. Thanks, Hillary, I love my little office, too, as mine in my previous house was a corner of the dining room. Actually, my office now also serves as a guest room, since that is a sofa bed you see…but guests that stay over don’t come very often. My grandkids love sleeping on the living room couch when they come.

Love margaritas…and martinis. Once a week, at least. Enjoy your week, and thanks for visiting.

    1. Thanks, StacyRenee…I did enjoy Shetland. Last night I watched an episode of Ozark, and I think I’ll like that one, too.

Yes, my office is cozy…it took a while to get it there…moving and rearranging stuff, with my granddaughter’s help.

Enjoy your week, and thanks for visiting.

    1. Thanks, Sarah, I don’t get too many “troll” comments, so when I do get one, I am always stunned. And then angry. LOL.

It is 71 right now…mornings are nice. But it will rise to 101 today, and 103 tomorrow. Sigh. But I can cope as long as it doesn’t go up to 110 and more, which happens sometimes.

I need to get some more soup…maybe today!

      1. I’m very glad you don’t have to endure such stupidity very often:)). Oh my… a couple of weeks ago we were nudging 80 and I was thoroughly enjoying the weather. It is now windy and showery and we are down to the low 60s *sigh*…

I just saw The Lying Game on Amazon yesterday, it sounds soo good. I hope you are enjoying Emma in the Night. Have a great week and thank you for stopping by earlier. 🙂

  5. Another week where we have a few ‘snaps’ with the Ruth Ware and the Nicci French sitting on my TBR.
Isn’t Shetland a great series although despite having a few on my shelf, I’ve never read any of Ann Cleeves books – I really must remedy that.
I hope you manage to stay as cool as possible!

    1. Thanks, Cleo, and I noticed that Shetland was based on her books. I haven’t read any of them, either. I started the new Nicci French, but only read one chapter so far. I love short chapters for that reason; I don’t like stopping between chapters.

      Enjoy your week!

    1. Thanks, vvb, and I went to have soup again today…this time, it was Chicken Tortilla. Yum!

I do love that cover on The Bookshop on the Corner, and I’m enjoying it already. I took it to lunch with me.

    1. Thanks, JoAnn…I was noticing the morning light when I snapped it.

I took The Bookshop on the Corner to lunch with me today (I’m reading two books; that one and a print version of the Nicci French), and it is promising to be truly engaging.

  6. We are watching Shetland right now and loving it! I think we’re going to try River next as I’ve heard that’s really good. Congrats on the empty mailbox! I’ll be curious to see what you think of The Lying Game as I’ve loved her previous books. The Nicci French book sounds good too. I just read the previous one and really liked it. Have a great week!

    1. So far I’m loving the Nicci French…and I am eager to get into The Lying Game.

I wish more seasons of Shetland would be released…I don’t know if there will be more, but I hope so.

I’ve also started watching Ozark, with Jason Bateman and Laura Linney. I watched only one episode so far, but I liked it.

Ugh for doing floors. I usually try to talk my husband into doing that job. 🙂 We just started Ozark (only 1 episode so far), but I think we’re going to like it. Your office light is lovely.

    1. Thanks for visiting, Candace, and I saw one episode of Ozark, too. More next weekend.

I tried to enlist my granddaughter’s help a couple of years ago; I paid her, even. She only did it once. LOL. Obviously nobody likes the task.

      Enjoy your week!

    1. Thanks for stopping by, Kathy, and I put off the housework for as long as I can…and then hate every moment of it. LOL.

I prefer reading, TV watching, movies, binge-watching, staring at the walls…anything is better.

I enjoyed the first episode of Ozark. I love almost anything that Jason Bateman does. Enjoy your week; I’m loving my books so far.

  8. Is that split pea soup? My tween likes that one. I think I’ve made it once in the past via the slow cooker. Busy week this week as we have a cul-de-sac block party, I have to drive up into the city (44 mi) one day for an appointment, and Craft Night at the neighbor’s. GTG and prep for my power walk this morning and then after that, weights, squats, and crunches. Have a good Monday.

    1. Thanks, Stefanie, and yes, split pea soup. I should learn to make these soups in my slow cooker…and I don’t know why I haven’t. Oh, yes, I’d rather grab the car keys and go out. LOL.

You have a busy week ahead! Cul-de-sac party sounds fun. I once lived on a cul-de-sac! Enjoy!

I’m far enough ahead in my reading now that books I read today won’t appear on my blogs until September. That means I’m currently reading September releases from my review stack. Come see my week here. Have a great week!

  10. I am getting my house cleaning done today after all the company and ahead of the heat wave. We are expected to get in the mid 100s this week, which is extremely hot for Portland. Ugh! I have The Book Shop at Water’s End coming up soon, so I am happy to see you liked it.

    1. Ooh, so I guess fleeing to Oregon would not help me escape the heat? LOL. I hope you manage the house cleaning in the heat. I didn’t do all of mine in one day, but what I did do (the scrubbing) was made worse by the heat.

Enjoy your week, and thanks for visiting, Heidi.

  11. The Cue Card

Your home office is always cozy and your margarita looks delicious. Floor cleaning is not my favorite either – nor dusting. We just started the TV series El Chapo first episode, so we will see if we continue to view the whole season. Uh-oh. Enjoy your week.

    1. Thanks, Susan, I spend so much time in my office that I want it to be cozy. I also hate dusting, but it’s a little easier since I put a lot of my trinkets in storage. I still have too many to make dusting easy, though. And margaritas and martinis are my reward. LOL. Enjoy your week.

  12. Our house had become sadly neglected with hubby recovering from his heart surgeries and me running three businesses plus the blog. We finally admitted we could afford and would greatly benefit from a cleaning lady. She is a blessing.
The Lying Game looks good – I sort of like the idea of “wrong-footed” in a mystery. I am always drawn to books that include bookshops.
Hope you enjoy this week’s reading and find some cool time.

    1. Thanks, Martha, and the only time I had a housekeeper was in my last house, while it was for sale. My condo is pretty small and I should be able to manage it, even the scrubbing, but I still hate it. LOL.

Enjoy your week, and thanks for visiting.
