RAINY DAY READING…

Today I’m participating in WWW Wednesdays, at Taking on a World of Words Here’s how it works:

The Three Ws are:

What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think you’ll read next, and/or what are you eagerly awaiting?

***

CURRENTLY READING:  On Turpentine Lane, by Elinor Lipman, is a book that I downloaded almost two years ago, “Light and tight, On Turpentine Lane is constructed with an almost scary mastery.”—New York Times Book Review

“A diverting delight.”—People

BOOKS FINISHED SINCE LAST WEEK: (Titles/Covers Linked to  My Reviews)

She Lies in Wait, by Gytha Lodge

Don’t Wake Up, by Liz Lawler

DNF:  Come Find Me, by Megan Miranda.  I may end up reading this book, but it didn’t quite make the grade for me this week.

EAGERLY ANTICIPATING:

The Turn of the Key, by Ruth Ware: Release Date – August 6, 2019

Synopsis:  When she stumbles across the ad, she’s looking for something else completely. But it seems like too good an opportunity to miss—a live-in nannying post, with a staggeringly generous salary. And when Rowan Caine arrives at Heatherbrae House, she is smitten—by the luxurious “smart” home fitted out with all modern conveniences, by the beautiful Scottish Highlands, and by this picture-perfect family.

What she doesn’t know is that she’s stepping into a nightmare—one that will end with a child dead and herself in prison awaiting trial for murder.

Writing to her lawyer from prison, she struggles to explain the unravelling events that led to her incarceration. It wasn’t just the constant surveillance from the cameras installed around the house, or the malfunctioning technology that woke the household with booming music, or turned the lights off at the worst possible time. It wasn’t just the girls, who turned out to be a far cry from the immaculately behaved model children she met at her interview. It wasn’t even the way she was left alone for weeks at a time, with no adults around apart from the enigmatic handyman, Jack Grant.

It was everything.

She knows she’s made mistakes. She admits that she lied to obtain the post, and that her behavior toward the children wasn’t always ideal. She’s not innocent, by any means. But, she maintains, she’s not guilty—at least not of murder. Which means someone else is.

That was my week:  some good, some not so good.  What did your week look like?

  1. Ooh I didn’t know Ruth Ware had a new book coming out later this year, I must make sure I pre-order this one as I really enjoyed her previous novel. I’ve not heard of On Turpentine Lane before but it sounds like such a good read, I’m definitely going to be adding this one to my wish list. I hope you enjoy your reading in the coming week! 🙂

  2. Glad you also enjoyed She Lies in Wait! I’m not quite sure I like the Hanson character, but I think that might be because she is hasn’t really been developed yet. As someone who has read almost all of Ruth Ware’s book, I am interested in hearing your thoughts on her new one. I really enjoyed Death of Mrs. Westaway. Here is my WWW this week: https://greatmorrisonmigration.wordpress.com/2019/02/27/www-wednesdays-february-27-2019/
