Welcome to another Bookish Friday, in which I enjoy sharing excerpts from books…and connecting with other bloggers, who do the same.
Let’s begin the celebration by sharing Book Beginnings, hosted by Rose City Reader; and let’s showcase The Friday 56 with Freda’s Voice.
To join in, just grab a book and share the opening lines…along with any thoughts you wish to give us; then turn to page 56 and excerpt anything on the page.
Then give us the title of the book, so others can add it to their lists!
What better way to spend a Friday!
Today’s feature is a book from Amazon Vine, an ARC: The In-Between Hour, by Barbara Claypole White.
Beginning: Will imagined silence. The silence of snowfall in the forest. The silence at the top of a crag. But eighty floors below his roof garden, another siren screeched along Central Park West.
***
56: Will was definitely no asshole. Plus he was the cutest guy she’d met since dumping the last putz. But dating was like baking. Pie crust didn’t always turn out right the first time, either.
***
Blurb: What could be worse than losing your child? Having to pretend he’s still alive…
Bestselling author Will Shepard is caught in the twilight of grief, after his young son dies in a car accident. But when his father’s aging mind erases the memory, Will rewrites the truth. The story he spins brings unexpected relief…until he’s forced to return to rural North Carolina, trapping himself in a lie.
Holistic veterinarian Hannah Linden is a healer who opens her heart to strays but can only watch, powerless, as her grown son struggles with inner demons. When she rents her guest cottage to Will and his dad, she finds solace in trying to mend their broken world, even while her own shatters.
As their lives connect and collide, Will and Hannah become each other’s only hope—if they can find their way into a new story, one that begins with love.
***
This one sounds like the kind of story I enjoy. What do you think? What are you sharing today?

Silence in NYC?? LOL Too funny, but I guess a guy can dream.
LOL @ the 56 too. Sounds like it’s gonna be a laugh-out-loud read! I love those!
I hope you enjoy GSAW. I did. I also didn’t expect to be blown away like TKAM.
Happy weekend!

Well, obviously I have strong opinions about this book. It’s darkly quirky–all my writing is–and it does deal with serious issues, but it’s ultimately hopeful. Promise. Thanks for discussing my book baby, y’all.

Hmmm… I thought I read the Barbara Claypole White book but reading the synopsis I am not sure that I have and of course now probably never will. Barbara was one of our wine and words authors last year. Wonderful lady.

I LOVE your BB! It actually makes me feel so sorry for the character. In such a small space I’m feeling so sorry for them and imagining a big headache 😦 I try to imagine silence when I have a headache x
